Love for Coffee

Its raining outside with thunderstorms, I got home from a satisfying trip to the mall just in time! As I am sitting by the window watching the rain and sipping my perfect brew of coffee.. I feel content, its a perfect Sunday afternoon :). So this nice moment of life gets me to the subject of this blog, love for coffee!

I like to try different varieties of coffee, and always look for nice joints and shops where I can get some. So I was in West Village yesterday, I came across this nice little shop Porto Rico Importing Co. Its like a dream shop for people who like coffee.. they have coffee beans and tea from all over the world. You get get whole beans or get it ground there. It reminded me of the shops in India where we used to go every few days and get freshly ground filter coffee. I bought 1/2 lb. of a coffee called Vienna Sumatra and its pretty good. So for next few months I will probably ditch the store brand and get new variety every time from this shop.

Movies and Sentiments

I have been thinking why do we cry when we see some intense emotion in movies.. and why do only some cry, not all? Some reasoning I could think of - we cry because the scene is so close to real that our mind (most probably heart..) forgets that we are part of reality but what we are watching is not. So in this case, does it mean the cast and crew have succeeded in their attempts? One more reasoning is that we try to relate events from our life to whats happening in the movie, and what happens next is that we try to take everything at a very personal level.. as if its all happening to you. And there is always this one character to whom you are relating to.. and our illusioned mind starts being that character. But its amazing how all this lasts only for a short time, just during the span of the movie. Once the movie is over, we are back to reality and the state of mind is back to being how it was before the movie!

Guitar Lessons

I had my first guitar lesson today and enjoyed the one hour more than I expected I would. I enrolled in NYC Guitar School this week for the beginner's class after a couple of days of online research for classes. My class is pretty small and we are a mix from different backgrounds and professions. I also rented an acoustic guitar from the school to practice at home. So today we learnt the anatomy of the guitar and also two chords. And guess what, I need to clip my fingernails to play the guitar... I have had long finger nails ever since high school, its going to be different but I am sure it will be worth it!

Movie Talk - The Motorcycle Diaries

I saw the movie The Motorcycle Diaries over the weekend and really liked it!The story starts out as an exciting adventure travel all around South America by two young men from Argentina, but grows more serious towards the end. The experiences they have change their thinking and shape their life very differently than what it would have been if they had continued to live their lives as usual back home.

I really liked the excitement, sense of adventure and free spirit to follow your heart about the story, which is a true account of the early life of South American revolutionary leader Ernesto Che Guevara. The amazing country side is captured very nicely in the movie, including Machu Picchu . And of course the actor who plays Ernesto is really cute! The movie is based on a book with the same name, that is definitely next on my reading list now.
